I have an IBC system using a bell syphon that drains the media bed into the fish tank with about a 1 foot drop. The fish tank overflows into a sump tank from where the water is pumped back into the media bed. Between the water draining into the fish tank and the fish tank draining into the sump (also about a 1 foot drop) I’ve never had any issues with too little DO. At least never issues with the fish gulping for air.
To reduce some of the noise due to water splashing, i was thinking of fitting a pipe to the media bed outlet and running it into the fish tank, below the surface level. A quick test shows this does reduce noise significantly, but will it also reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fish. I don’t want to try and cause them stress and I don’t have a DO meter. submitted by /u/mainlyespresso
