How to transplant 30” dumb cane plant with short roots from aquarium into soil?

I bought this dumb cane plant on clearance at my local garden store when it was a few inches tall and dying. I rinsed off the soil and it has been growing with its roots in LECA clay pebbles in this aquarium for over a year.

It’s 30” now and happily still growing. I’m worried about its size/weight stressing the aquarium glass and want to move it somewhere else. It is being held up using command hooks on the wall and garden string. The roots are pretty short – not sure if that’s normal for this plant or the fish nibble on them.

I’m in SoCal where winters are mild but we do have freezing temps at night occasionally. I have space to plant in soil indoors or outdoors. Looking for advice on how to best transplant it and keep it happy.

Note – I am aware of the poisonous nature of this plant and take extra precautions to protect myself and my family. submitted by /u/ComparisonFirst
