First time aquaponics, small(?) set-up planning.

I’m very new to aquaponics and thinking of starting up a small system. My father did it out of a defunct hot tub, but all I did was toss food to the fish occasionally. I’m in southern arizona and right now I’m just in planning phase.

I’ve got a rainwater collection system that I figure I’ll take the water from and put it in a 100 gallon stainless steel trough, and a fluval 207 that I was previously using for my aquarium that I thought might be used as the pump. What (if any) ornamental fish would I put in an outdoor system this small? I’d like to grow berries of some kind as the crop. I’m not going crazy with it, I don’t really have the space or attention for more than a few plants.

Honestly I was originally just planning on growing daphnia so I could harvest them as live enrichment for my aquarium, but I don’t think they add nutrients the way fish do. Any advice would be helpful. submitted by /u/arduousjester
