Built my aquaponics filtration system using two barrels and rubber push seals for the pipe inlets. It works, but the barrel walls are a little too thin for the seals to seat perfectly, so every once in a while I have to mess with them to stop small leaks.
I ended up discovering that the hard plastic spacer rings that come with bulkhead fittings work great as backing spacers between the barrel and the rubber seals. They help compress everything tighter and keep it sealed better.
In hindsight, I probably should’ve just installed bulkhead fittings from the start but I wasn’t sure how they would work out with the contour of the barrels. 😅 submitted by /u/Opposite-Lab-3365
